EYFS - 2018/19
Autumn Term 2018
Welcome to Heathlands! We are writing to give you an overview of what your child will be learning this term. The first half term the theme is ‘Let’s Go’ which will include cars, trains, planes, emergency services and the story ‘The Naughty Bus’. The second half term has the theme of ‘Celebrations’ we shall learn about Autumn, Divali, Birthdays, Fireworks and Christmas. Your child will take part in a Nativity which we would love you to watch. The date for this is Tuesday 18th December starting at around 2pm. Health and safety allows enough seating for two adults per child but we also try to film the performance with DVD for you buy if you wish to. More details will follow nearer the time.
An overview of each theme linked to learning areas is on the back of this letter. If you have items, artefacts or books that like to one or more of the themes of course we would love to see and share them with the class. Please ensure any item brought into school are clearly named.
Our P.E day is Wednesday. Please make sure P.E kit should be brought into school and left on your child’s peg, we will send the kits home at the end of the first half term. Please ensure jewellery is removed before school. As a reminder house colour PE t – shirts can be bought from the school office.
Very soon your child will come home from school with a book to share with you. These books may have no words to begin with so please concentrate on making a story and your child’s use of language and ideas to tell the story. As times moves on and your child is confident with letter sounds we shall send books home with words. Books will be changed and updated when required so do not feel pressured to ‘finish’ the book all in one go. Please ensure you write in your child’s reading diary every time you read and send them to school with their book bag each day.
Your child will come home talking about house points. This is a reward system in school where children receive points for independent thinking, not giving up, behaviour, effort and achieving targets. Children collect house points to work towards achieving their Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum certificate.
You should be aware that we are a ‘Visible Learning’ school. We have animal characters in the classroom which support life long learning attitudes and behaviours. We will have an open classroom session (dates to follow) where you can come into class, share learning and gain an understanding of ‘Visible Learning’. If you see your child wearing an animal sticker please ask them which character it is and why they received the reward. The first character we shall be introducing is ‘Join in Giraffe’.
We love to have parents come into school and help with activities and hear children read. If you would like to do this please come and see us, we may ask for you to wait a few weeks until the children have settled, but we really do value your time and support.
Lastly we would like to say if you have any questions or would like to share any information with us about your child please do come and see us, we are always around at the gate or available to see at other times. We will have parents evening towards the end of this half term where you will be able to see your child’s class and discuss how they have settled into school.
