Welcome to our new-look website and new-look newsletter!

A lot of work has gone into setting this up and work is well underway to make sure the website is updated with the newest and most appropriate information. Please keep checking back, but I will try to keep you updated via newsletters of any significant changes.

The news articles below can also be found on the website, as can the Key Dates on our School Calendar webpage.

So much has been going on in school over the past two weeks, but I would like to start by congratulating our Year 6s on how maturely they handled their SATs last week. They went about the week with a really positive attitude and should all feel proud of themselves. They then followed this up with an exciting trip to London to see the Lion King on stage. A big thank you to Mr Hassard, Mrs Gibson, and all the staff involved for their hard work with both the SATs and trip, and allowing our Year 6s to shine their lights.

This week has been our annual Arts & Culture week, and it has been fantastic to see the staff and children all around the school getting so creative. This afternoon we had our fashion catwalk, which was great fun and is something that will stay with me forever! Thank you to Mrs Wiggins and Mrs Nakum, who have done a great job on leading on our Arts and Culture week, and also for the hard work they are putting into our Arts Mark application.

Although this has been a short half -term, it has been a very busy one at Heathlands, with so much crammed in, and with us all getting ready for the last half-term of the academic year.

I wish you and your families a really lovely half-term break and I look forward to seeing you when we return on Monday 2nd June.

As always, thank you for your support.

Poetry Roadshow

On Monday I had the pleasure of taking Isabel S (Y3) and Pippa H (Y6) to North Primary, Braiswick Academy andBishop William Ward, before returning to Heathlands for a Poetry Roadshow.

The girls did a fantastic job of representing Heathlands and sharing their fantastic poems, which were based upon the theme of community. It was great to see all the children, from all four schools, taking part and enjoying the day, and in the end they performed for over 1500 children and staff!

As part of the Roadshow, each Headteacher had to share their favourite poems, and whilst I enjoyed performing as Prospero from The Tempest I was definitely outdone by Mr Bull who gave us a full-on musical rendition of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

School Trips/Experiences

As you may be aware, we came very close to having to cancel some trips and experiences this week. I would like to thank the parents who were very generous and supportive. Due to their hard work and kindness, the trips/experiences are able to go ahead.

Unfortunately, we are not able to fairly and consistently cover the deficit for school trips and experiences, so parental contributions are more important than ever.

I am looking into more sustainable approaches to best help with managing this going forwards - examples of this could be a hardship fund, and also ensuring trips and experiences are planned in advance and shared with you, to help with budgeting.

If you are ever struggling to meet the cost of any trip or experience, then please do come and talk to us.

Thank you for your support.

Class Dojo

Yesterday you should have received a QR code to help you sign up to Class Dojo - a new communciation platform. I also sent home guidance on how to get set-up and on how we will, and will not, be using it.

Please bear with us whilst we iron out any early issues. Please do come and talk to me at the gate if you have any questions or need any assistance in getting set-up.

Mr Roberts

Sadly for us, Mr Roberts has decided to take up a new adventure and will be leaving us today.

I would like to thank Mr Roberts for all his efforts in our school kitchen, and all at Heathlands wish him and his family well for the future.

Whole School Photo

Yesterday you should have rteceived an email with the QR code from which you can order a copy of the whole school photo. If, for any reason, you haven't received this, then please contact the school office.

Since joining Heathlands, I have been impressed with the respect and kindness shown by parents. It's clear that our Core Values are exhibited every day in the majority of interactions. However, there have been times when staff at the school have been spoken to in a degrading and aggressive manner.

Whilst I appreciate there may be times that you feel frustrated, it is important to remember that we all want the best for the children at Heathlands, and that this is best achieved through supportive and open collaboration.

Disrespectful and aggressive behaviour towards staff will never have a place at our school and will not be tolerated.
