CPSL GIRLS FOOTBALL MATCH VS KELVEDON

Heathlands 9 - 1 Kelvedon

On Thursday 10th May,  the girls' year 5/6 team played their final match of the season knowing that a win would secure the CPSSL title. Needless to say the girls were fired up to play our rivals Kelvedon.
The game started quickly and both teams played really well, but it was Heathlands who scored first. As the game progressed Heathlands played really well, passing and attacking quickly. Despite Kelvedon’s gallant defending, Heathlands were not to be denied and the goals came from a range of dribbling, crossing and shooting, with great contributions throughout the team.
When the final whistle blew the scoreline was 9-1 to Heathlands. This was a fitting end to the season as the girls celebrated a hard fought victory and a fine season in which they have played some great football and finished as champions.

CBSSP KS2 MULTI SKILLS EVENT

On Thursday 3rd May, eight children from across Key Stage Two traveled to Thurstable School to take part in a Multi Skills Festival. This was an inclusive event designed for children who enjoy sport but, due to a special educational need, may find it difficult to take part. The children that attended had a great time taking part in a range of sport related challenges designed to improve their agility, balance and coordination while also allowing them to try and improve and have fun. All of those that took part enjoyed their afternoon and were keen to know if any other similar events would be organised that they could go to (hopefully they will).

FRIARS GROVE FOOTBALL CUP

On Tuesday 1st May, a Heathlands team took part in the Friars Grove Development Cup. This competition had been organised for children who enjoy their football but who may not have had as many opportunities to represent the school team in fixtures earlier in the year. Our team were very excited to be taking part and representing the school in matches against children of a similar ability. The team were involved in four close matches, winning them all but often by only a single goal. It was fantastic to see the children grow in confidence as the tournament went on and begin to get on the ball more often. The team were delighted to win the competition and should be proud of the way they played. Many thanks to Friars Grove for organising such an enjoyable event.

YEAR 5 & 6 COLCHESTER UNITED GIRLS FOOTBALL COMPETITION

On Thursday 26th April two of our Year 5/6 girls teams attended an identical event, having equally as much fun and showing just as much determination.

A big thank you to all of the parents who have helped with transport over the week. A whopping 33 girls have represented our school this week.

YEAR 3 & 4 COLCHESTER UNITED GIRLS FOOTBALL COMPETITION

On Tuesday 24th April two Year 3/4 girls teams represented the school at the Disney sponsored Girls football event at Shrub End.

The girls were all very excited and played exceptionally well scoring many great goals. To add further excitement the organisers added an extra stipulation. When a Disney song played goals were worth double. This saw a frenzy of goal mouth activity with many of our girls scoring double points.

All in all the girls played really well in what for many was their first appearance in Heathlands colours.

YEAR 1 & 2 THREE TEES CRICKET COMPETITION

On 23rd April a team of eight Year 2 children travelled to Colchester Cricket Club to take part in a 3 Tees Cricket competition. All of the children played incredibly well, learning how the game was played when they first arrived and then developing their cricketing skills as the afternoon went on. When the team were not playing they also had the chance to take part in some All Stars activities, the like of which hopefully many of this group and other at school will enjoy this Summer. The team played so well they made it through to the final, losing out by only a few runs and therefore coming second. All of the children had a great time and also had the chance to hold the County Cricket Championship won by Essex last season!

COUNTY INDIVIDUAL CROSS COUNTRY COMPETITION

The 20th April was the Cross Country individual County competition, also taking place at Hadleigh Park and in very hot conditions. All of the runners across Years 3, 4 and 5 had already finished in the top ten in the Colchester event and were looking forward to running this more exciting and challenging course. The standard was incredibly high but all of our runners showed great resilience and ability in competing in this field. Well done to all of our runners.

TEAM COUNTY CROSS COUNTRY COMPETITION

On 19th April, our Year 3 boys Cross Country team travelled to Hadleigh Park to take part in the County competition. The team had already won the Colchester event and were looking forward to racing against the best teams in Essex. On a very hot day (not ideal for Cross Country) the team all performed exceptionally well.

CBSSP YEAR & 6 CROSS COUNTRY COMPETITION

On March 21st our Year 5 Cross Country team travelled to Colchester Rugby Club to race. Unfortunately our Year 6 team were unable to join them due to it being mock SATs week. The year 5's enjoyed their races and performed very well with both teams completing high finishes, the boys team even coming 2nd in the team event. We also had two top ten finishes (Catherine and Finley) so they will now take part in the individual County event.

ST HELENA YEAR 3 & 4 CROSS COUNTRY COMPETITION

On March 20th, the Year 3 and 4 Cross Country teams travelled to Hilly Fields, next to St Helena School to take part in their team competition. Many of the children preferred this event to the CBSSP competition as they had the chance to run over rougher ground and up and down a small hill! All of the children ran extremely well, keen to push themselves as hard as they could. A number of our teams achieved top three finishes with some even managing to win their race. Well done to all that took part.

COUNTY SPORTSHALL ATHLETICS COMPETITION

After winning the Colchester Sportshall Athletics competition, the team travelled to Southend Leisure Centre to take part in the County Competition. As expected, the standard here was very high with a number of the children taking part belonging to Athletics clubs outside of school. Our team did not look out of place though in any events, showcasing their ability and the hard work they have put into their various events in training at school. The team achieved a very respectable top 10 finish, enjoyed their day and should be proud of what they have achieved.
Many thanks also to Mr Wilkinson who took the fantastic photos of the event that you can see below.

CBSSP TAG RUGBY COMPETITION

On 7th March, Heathlands took two teams to take part in a Tag Rugby Competition. Prior to the competition, the children who were taking part decided that rather than selecting an A and a B team they would prefer that the teams were mixed. Both teams went into the competition confident they could play well and it was fantastic to see how the skills and tactics we have been working on at the Rugby Club run at school were beginning to be used. The teams finished 3rd and 4th, separated only by the game they played against each other which itself was only won by a last minute try! It is possible that had the teams been split into an A and a B we could have been more competitive against those teams that cam 1st and 2nd, however, it was great to see the enjoyment of all of the children throughout the day after allowing them to take ownership of their competition.

CBSSP YEAR 3 & 4 CROSS COUNTRY COMPETITION

On 21st February, the school Year 3 & 4 Cross Country teams travelled to Colchester Rugby Club to take part in a competition. All of the children taking part had been training at lunchtimes and were ready to run, despite the cold conditions! Four fantastic races resulted in our year 3 boys team winning their race and therefore going on to take part in a team County competition. A number of runners also achieved top 10 finishes (Bobby, Benjamin, Felicity, Ronnie and Millie) and will go on to take part in the individual County competition. Well done to all of the runners who took part.

CPSL NETBALL MATCH AGAINST FRIARS GROVE

Heathlands 18 - 0 Friars Grove

On the 5th February, the Year 6 netball team went to Friars Grove primary school to play. Friars Grove netball team played exceedingly well with an enthusiastic attitude all the way through. The match ended with a great result for Heathlands, with a winning score of 18-0. Thank you to the parents who drove us there and for your fab support.

CPSL FOOTBALL MATCH AGAINST GOSBECKS

Heathlands 7 - 0 Gosbecks

On 23rd January 2018, we travelled to Gosbecks primary school to play against their football team. The match started with us dominating the ball as well as getting lots of chances and defending well.

By the end of the first half, the score line was 5-0 to Heathlands: Keaton scoring 3, Lucy scoring 1 and Elijah scoring 1. In the second half, Mr. Hassard decided to change the positions around a bit. Gosbecks ended up hitting the post once; which was their only shot at goal. We had a lot of chances in the second half but wasn't as clinical as we were in the first half. Finally we had a really good chance where William had the ball at the back post, then he passed it to me on the penalty spot, and I put it in the bottom corner. Our last goal was Henry's first touch when he came on in the striker position just after the sixth goal.

The match ended with an amazing score line for us which was 7-0, and we came back having enjoyed the match and feeling proud of what we had achieved.

CBSSP SPORTSHALL ATHLETICS COMPETITION

HEATHLANDS WIN SPORTSHALL ATHLETICS COMPETITION!

Today Heathlands School took part in a Sports Hall Athletics Competition. We took children from year’s 5 and 6, to compete in all the different sport activities at the event.
At the start of the competition, there were throwing and jumping events. We all did amazingly well in these! Then later in the day, there were the running events and an obstacle race. We all did brilliantly in these races, with a few of our runners showing great determination after accidently slipping and hurting themselves; but instead of giving up, they still chose to carry on. This was a brave and resilient thing to do, even though they could have given up!
Over all we had a great day; tried really hard and gave it our all!
It was amazing!

CPSL NETBALL MATCH AGAINST KELVEDON

Heathlands 19 - 0 Kelvedon
Match report to follow.

CBSSP DODGEBALL COMPETITION

Heathlands finish 2nd!

On 29th November, we took part in a new competition; Dodgeball. After a very successful inter house competition earlier in the year the children taking part were very excited to play against other schools. As the competition went on they learnt more about how to play competitively and began to devise their own tactics to try and be successful. Their approach worked well as they made it through to the final before losing this match to come 2nd. A fantastic first Dodgeball competition and an event we are sure to take part in again.

COUNTY FOOTBALL COMPETITION

After the girls football team enjoyed their County Competition, it was now the turn of the school football team! The lead up to the competition was tricky with potential injuries amongst the team including last minute replacements, but this did not effect the fantastic football this team continue to play. The team should be pleased and proud of their approach to playing matches, even if this is not always reflected in the number of goals they are able to score or the results they achieve, this way of playing will lead to them becoming better footballers in the future. The team narrowly missed out on the semi final place this time. Well done to all of the children that took part.

GIRLS FOOTBALL COUNTY COMPETITION

Heathlands finish 3rd!

After their success in the Colchester Football Competition, the girls team went to play against the best school teams across Essex. It was clear that this was going to be a very challenging and competitive competition but the girls played exceptionally well throughout the day, narrowly missing out on a place in the final and then wining their 3rd/4th place play off match. Well done girls!

LITTLEGARTH YEAR 3 & 4 FOOTBALL COMPETITION

Heathlands finish 2nd!

On 20th November, a further team of Heathlands children from year 4 travelled to Littlegarth School to take part in a football competition. Many of these children play for Bergholt Heath Football Club and we were lucky that there manager was able to come along to support and help guide the team. All of the children involved played some great football, showing how much they have learnt over the past three years. The team managed to make it through to the final, narrowly losing to the eventual winers. Well done to all of the children that took part.

CPSL FOOTBALL MATCH AGAINST NORTH

Heathlands 1 - 0 North

On Friday 17th November, Heathlands upper junior football team had an exciting fixture against North Primary School. It started with the opposition kicking off and our amazing defence winning the ball back quickly! During the first half we attacked well and defended with determination. Near to the end of the first half the ball landed well from a goal kick at the able feet of Henry, enabling him to slip past the opposition and tap it in the near post for a goal. In the second half, North Primary School started to really attack our defence which was a challenge. Despite this we fought the battle well and didn't concede any goals. Making us the winners!

CPSL NETBALL MATCH AWAY AGAINST PRETTYGATE

Heathlands 11 - 0 Prettygate

After travelling to Prettygate Junior School we had a quick warm up session then went straight into the match. Everyone worked very hard and put up a good fight on both sides.
Eventually the game ended and despite Prettygate's best efforts , we beat them 11-0.

LITTLEGARTH YEAR 3 & 4 FOOTBALL COMPETITION

On Monday 14th November, nine children in years 3 and 4 took part in a football competition at Littlegarth school. The children always looked to play football from the back and put in a series of great performances. Unfortunately, these performances were not always reflected in the results but all of the boys that took part should be proud of the way they played.

CBSSP & CPSL FOOTBALL MATCH AGAINST KELVEDON

Heathlands 6 - 2 Kelvedon - HEATHLANDS WIN CBSSP FOOTBALL COPETITION!

Unable to separate the two teams in the previous week’s tournament it was decided that Heathlands and Kelvedon would play a one off, winner takes all, match to become the District Champions.
With the exception of Lewis Philpot returning in goal, the squad was the same as from the tournament day, when in the last rounds the team had gone 16 games unbeaten! The squad were therefore confident that if they played to the best of their abilities they would have a good chance of winning.
After a nervous start to the match, Keaton, scored the first goal of the game. This settled the team and they began to play some attractive football. The goals followed and at half time the team had scored 3 more, with goals from Oscar, Elijah and an unfortunate own goal. On the rare occasions that Kelvedon broke forward the defensive team of Lucy, James and Lewis in goal, managed to snuff out any threat.
At half time the coach, Mr Hassard, gave the instructions for the team to continue with their good play, to battle and be first to the ball, to see out the second half and secure the win that their first half performance deserved.
Kelvedon, as expected, came out strong at the beginning of the second half, managing to score an early goal. However, this did not dent Heathland’s confidence and they continued to play good football and score another 2 goals, with Elijah and Keaton both getting their second goals of the match.
The final whistle was greeted with loud applause for both teams with Heathland winning 6-2 and being crowned Champions!

CBSSP GIRLS FOOTBALL COMPETITION

HEATHLANDS FINISH 5TH AND WIN CBSSP GIRLS FOOTBALL COMPETITION!

On 7th November 2017, we had a football competition. Our first game finished 0-0 but soon started scoring goals with Lucy sweeping it around players legs and scoring a whopping 8 goals. After playing our group games we found we had made it through to the semi finals against Kelvedon. The game finished 0-0 and went to a penalty shoot-out! We won this and then played Great Totham in the final who we also beat to win the competition. After this game we all celebrated together, including our other Heathlands team who despite being less experienced in playing football still managed a 5th place finish!

CPSL FOOTBALL MATCH AGAINST FRIARS GROVE

Heathlands 2 - 2 Friars Grove

On 7th November, our football team played Friars Grove. It was a tight game against tough opposition. We had many scoring opportunities, the team worked hard passing up the pitch and we had high work-rates. Only 5 minutes into the game we scored our first goal from controlling the possession. At half-time the score was 1-0 to Heathlands.
In the second half we committed a penalty which the opposition slotted into the side netting, evening up the score. Shortly after, we grabbed back another to make it 2-1. Unfortunately they scored another as well making the final score 2-2.

CPSL NETBALL MATCH AGAINST NORTH

Heathlands 26 - 0 North

It was a chilly Monday afternoon, when North's netball team arrived on our court. The first two quarters were played well by all, but Heathlands managed to score twelve while North were yet to score. In the following two quarters Heathlands continued to up their game and goal after goal flew into North's net. North didn't give up and continued to play their best until the end. The final score was 26-0 to Heathlands. It was lovely for both teams to share squash and biscuits at the end of the game!

CBSSP FOOTBALL FINALS

Heathlands finish joint 1st!

On Tuesday 31st October we took part in the football finals. We played out from the back well and made good split passes to our wingers and through to our striker. We made good passes and got into the final 3rd well, but needed to be more clinical. We also needed to have more composure when getting the ball and find the quick passes. All in all we played really well but just needed to get our shots on target. It was great battling for joint first, but a shame we didn’t win it.
Great goal scoring by me, Oscar, Keaton, Henry, James and Lucy

CPSL GIRLS FOOTBALL MATCH AGAINST ST JAMES

Heathlands  12 - 0 St James

On Friday 20th October, we travelled to St James Primary School to play a football match. At the start of the match we played well whilst passing the ball up the pitch towards the goal. In the first half we succeeded with an four amazing goals. Half time came before we eagerly ran back onto the pitch after having a great team chat with Mr Turver, our coach. The game carried on and we scored another eight brilliant goals. St James played really well in their first match but on this occasion we won 12-0.

COLCHESTER UNITED YEAR 3 & 4 FOOTBALL FESTIVAL

On Thursday 19th October, two teams of Year 4 boys travelled to Shrub End to take part in a football festival organised by Colchester United. Over the course of the morning, the boys had the chance to show what they could do individually as well as beginning to play more as a team. All of the boys enjoyed playing as well as their opportunity to meet Eddie the Eagle!
