THURSDAY 17TH MARCH - CPSL FOOTBALL MATCH VS KELVEDON

Heathlands 0 - 1 Kelvedon

On Thursday 17th March the football team awaited their toughest league game yet against Kelvedon. The game started with lots of Kelvedon pressure but the boys of Heathlands defended extremely well, also having the odd counter attack. Just before half time the concentration dropped and Kelvedon scored.
Heathlands started the second half strongly and soaked up a lot more pressure, playing better football as well. We were fighting strongly to try and find an equaliser, but we ran out of time. The boys were disappointed with the result but pleased with the way they played, particularly in the second half, and look forward to their two remaining league games.
Congratulations to the girls who won their match at the same time - it was nice to get to watch the last five minutes and see how much you have improved this year.

ST HELENA YEAR 5 & 6 NETBALL COMPETITION

Heathlands win St Helena Year 5 & 6 Netball Competition!

On Tuesday 8th March our superb netball squad travelled to St Helena secondary school to participate in a netball tournament. Unfortunately, a few schools were unable to attend due to other commitments so the four schools that took part were St Johns Green, St Georges, Kendall and of course Heathlands.
In the first game that we played, both Heathlands and St Johns Green played excellently; after eighteen minutes of hard work, grit and determination we won with a score of 8-1. Also, Amy had her second hat-trick of the season!
In our second match, which was played against St Georges, there was a lot of excellent play from everyone, although we were blown away by Claudia in particular. Although she favours playing in defence we were stunned when time and time again she frequently scored—nine times in a row to be precise!
In our last match, which was against Kendall, everyone played politely, yet slightly competitively; we were very pleased to have beaten them with a score of 10-0.When all the games had been played, we were invited over for the much awaited results. We were delighted to receive the title of first place! We were overjoyed at this announcement and the squad went to receive their medals.
Well done to all the opposing teams, you played brilliantly and we had a really great time. A special thanks to all the mums that transported and supported the squad.

Despite the terrible conditions, we all kept going and showed a lot of resilience, we even scored a few tries!
Overall, Heathlands played exceptionally well and both teams managed to come third in their groups. This meant a Heathlands Vs Heathlands match! At the end of our final game we all congratulated each other. Everyone improved a huge amount over the afternoon.

During the penultimate quarter, much to the teachers annoyance, there was a fire drill! Everyone sensibly filed out onto the playing field and waited to see what happeneded. After a small amount of nervous waiting, we carried on with the game. Luckily, the fire drill was a false alarm. At this point Prettygate had come into the lead with a score of 6-4.
The last quarter, which was definitely the most exciting of the four, consisted of incredible play from both teams, with Amy scoring a hat trick! At the end of the match, the score was an immense 10-6 to Heathlands! Well done to the squad and thank you to Prettygate for such a good performance that helped in creating a really tense atmosphere, which makes the game more interesting altogether. 27TH JANUARY 2016 - CBSSP SPORTSHALL ATHLETICS FINALS

Heathlands wins the CBSSP Sportshall Athletics Finals!

On Wednesday 26th January, after qualifying in second place in the Sporthall Athletics heats at Leisure World earlier in the month, we were back focusing on the forthcoming final.
The same group of year 5 and 6 pupils were able to take part in the track and field events against five other schools. Once we had arrived, we started by warming up and practising our field events which were about to start. There were four different field events; standing long jump, standing triple jump, speed bounce and chest push.
After performing at our very best, we swiftly moved on to the track events, which were; 1 x 1 relay, 2 x 2 relay, 4 x 1 relay, 6 lap Paarlauf and an obstacle relay.
After competing extremely well, we were full of anticipation because we couldn't wait to hear where our competitive team ended up on the leader board. After finding out we had reached the top three we were thrilled. When we finally heard that there was a draw between us and Great Totham we couldn't believe it! We were both first! There had to be a winner though so it would be decided by the school that had won the most individual events. Great Totham won four events, and we had won ... five! We had won! We were immensely proud of everyone in our team for reaching 1st place and qualifying for the upcoming Essex event.

After a smashing start to the season, the netball squad had butterflies as they made their way to North Primary School for their next match on Wednesday 20th January. Unfortunately, Ruby was unable to play so there was just a team of six. The team warmed up and practised shooting before the game started. The match began with North scoring a goal but Heathlands equalised with them almost immediately. The score at the end of the first quarter was 7-1 to Heathlands.
The second and third quarter consisted of excellent play from both opposing sides and a brilliant hat trick from Shannon! At the end of the match, the final score was 20-2 to Heathlands. Congratulations to the squad and well done to North for showing great resilience! Thank you to the mums that transported the squad and supported them whilst they were playing.

14TH JANUARY 2016 - CPSL NETBALL MATCH VS MYLAND

On 14th January our talented netball team played a match against Myland School. The game started very well for Heathlands and in the first quarter we had a 7-0 lead. In spite of the freezing weather both teams plowed through the match in a positive spirit. Toward the end of the match we surpassed expectations scoring twenty one goals without conceding any. The overall performance was very impressive and the unbeaten run continues. A special mention must go to Amy who scored five consecutive goals.

14TH JANUARY 2016 - CPSL FOOTBALL MATCH VS MYLAND

On the 14th of January the Heathlands football team played a match against Myland. As the boys walked out excitedly onto the damp pitch they started to warm up. Mr Hassard blew the starting whistle for what was going to be an exciting first half. There were many close chances and finally Wills opened the scoring with an amazing shot guided in by the post. The first half ended with Heathlands in the lead. They had a small team talk with Mr Hassard just before the second half started. Everybody got ready for the start of the second half as the Ref blew the whistle. Heathlands were determined to get another goal and that’s exactly what they did. Isaac ran up the pitch and laid it off to Tommy who smashed it into the bottom corner and made it 2-0 to Heathlands. As the game was coming to an end, Nat got the final goal for Heathlands with an amazing run. The game was in the final minutes when Myland made it 3-1. Was the comeback on? No! The ref then blew the final whistle, making the end score 3-1 to Heathlands, which added a fair three points onto their total. A great game for both teams!
