Remembrance at Heathlands

Remembrance week at Heathlands was a deeply meaningful time for our entire school community. Throughout the week, our children engaged in thoughtful learning and reflection through our Acts of Collective Worship, honouring those who have served and sacrificed for our country.

The week began with a whole-school Remembrance Service, where our pupils demonstrated the utmost respect and maturity. The atmosphere was one of quiet dignity as children from all year groups came together to remember and pay tribute. Their behaviour and engagement throughout the service was exemplary, showing a genuine understanding of the significance of Remembrance and the importance of honouring those who gave so much.

A particular highlight of the week was our Prayer Space, which every child in the school had the opportunity to visit. The space offered a range of carefully designed activities that encouraged personal reflection and contemplation. Children engaged with different stations, each providing a unique way to think about peace, remembrance, and gratitude. The activities allowed our pupils to express their thoughts and feelings in creative and meaningful ways, from writing prayers and messages to creating visual tributes.

The combination of our Remembrance Service and the reflective Prayer Space activities provided our children with multiple ways to engage with this important occasion. It was heartening to see how respectfully and thoughtfully every child approached these experiences, demonstrating the values we hold dear at Heathlands.

This week reminded us all of the importance of remembrance, reflection, and respect – values that will stay with our children long beyond this week.
