We were delighted to welcome a very special Headteacher to Heathlands recently, as Evelyn proudly took on the role of Headteacher for the Day after winning our Golden Wonka Bar prize.
From the moment she arrived, Evelyn embraced her responsibilities with enthusiasm, confidence and a wonderful sense of fun. She began the day by meeting with staff to talk through the plans she had created, before making important decisions about the school day ahead – including organising a non-uniform day for everyone to enjoy!
She started the day by meeting with Mrs Codling, our Chair of Governors, and was very ably helped throughout the day by Lyla and Isabelle, who were her Deputy Headteachers.
Throughout the day, Evelyn could be seen confidently visiting classrooms, talking to pupils and staff, and finding out more about how the school runs behind the scenes. She showed great curiosity, asked thoughtful questions and demonstrated many of the qualities we value so highly at Heathlands: confidence, kindness, leadership and enthusiasm.
Towards the end of the day Evelyn and her Deputies wrote 'Above and Beyond' cards, which Mrs Crawley uses, to thank and recognise members of staff across the school.
One of the highlights of the day was Evelyn helping to plan the school lunch menu, ensuring it was both enjoyable and inclusive for everyone. She also spent time learning about the responsibilities involved in leading a school, from keeping pupils safe and happy to making sure learning is engaging and purposeful.
Evelyn approached her role with maturity and positivity, and she was a real credit to herself and her family. It was lovely to see how seriously she took the responsibility, while still enjoying the fun and excitement of the experience.
A huge well done to Evelyn for being such a fantastic Headteacher for the Day — and thank you to everyone who helped make the day so special.
We hope Evelyn enjoyed her day as much as we did!
