Free School Meals

As a school, we are committed to ensuring equality, fairness and inclusion of all pupils in a wide range of school and broader activities. This includes  providing support to families whose children may be eligible to claim Free School Meals.  For each child who has a free school meal, the school  receives extra funding. This funding helps with extra learning support,  with the cost of trips, resources and other targeted support.
In order to secure funding we need to have accurate and up to date information regarding which pupils are entitled to such support.  An important point to make is that although some pupils are eligible for Free School Meals, some choose not to take them, this does not, however, prevent our school from seeking funding known as The Pupil Premium. This amounts to a considerable sum per eligible child and therefore it is really important to let us know about your entitlements, even if your child/children do not wish to take up their free meal. (Children who are eligible for Free School Meals are not identified in any way, nor are they treated any differently at lunch times).

Your child may be entitled to Free School Meals if you or your partner (living at the same address) receive one of the following:-

  • income support or income-based Job Seekers Allowance;
  • Child Tax Credit with an annual taxable income of less than £16,190
  • Pension Guarantee Credit;
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance;
  • support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.

(You are not eligible if you receive any amount of Working Tax Credit.)  You can apply online for Free School Meals by following this link to the Essex County Council information page:
