Visible Learning

At Heathlands Primary School we are passionate about Visible Learning. Visible Learning means an enhanced role for teachers as they become evaluators of their own teaching.

According to John Hattie, Visible Learning and Teaching occurs when teachers see learning through the eyes of students and help them become their own teachers. Visible learning is driven by research and recognises key features that accelerate pupil progress. Pupils are fully aware, from Early Years to Year 6, what they are working towards and have a clear view of the “bigger picture”.

They are aware of, and strive to be rewarded for demonstrating the aspects of, what makes a good learner. In lessons, children are supported in building their knowledge from surface level to deeper knowledge in all areas of the curriculum and fully understand that failure is the first step to success. Our children realise the importance of responding to feedback in order to improve their work and make progress in their learning.
